Post Treatment Care
PDO Threads
Why it matters.
PDO Threads are a minimally invasive treatment designed to lift, tighten, and stimulate collagen production in the skin. This procedure involves multiple entry points with fine threads inserted beneath the skin’s surface. Because the skin barrier is compromised and foreign material is introduced, following strict aftercare is essential to minimise risk, support healing, and maximise results.
Care Guidelines.
Avoid touching, rubbing, or applying makeup to the treated areas for at least 12 hours.
Sleep on your back with your head elevated for the first few nights to minimise pressure on the threads.
Always apply SPF daily and avoid sun exposure, solariums, or tanning.
Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive heat (saunas, hot yoga, steam rooms) for 1–2 weeks.
Limit exaggerated facial movements (chewing gum, wide yawning, excessive laughing) for the first week.
Stay well hydrated and maintain a nutrient-rich diet to support healing and collagen production.
If bruising occurs, a topical bruising cream may help reduce discolouration — please contact the clinic if you’d like recommendations.
In-Clinic Support.
A soothing treatment may be applied immediately after PDO Threads to calm the skin and support healing.
LED Light Therapy can also be considered directly post treatment, or within the first 24–48 hours to reduce swelling and encourage recovery. Depending on your needs, 2–3 sessions in the first week may further support results.
A review appointment is recommended at 2 weeks to assess thread positioning, healing, and overall results.
PDO Threads typically provide results that improve gradually as collagen production is stimulated. Your practitioner will guide you on whether additional sessions or complementary treatments may be beneficial.
If bruising occurs, a medical-grade bruising cream may assist recovery. Please discuss with your practitioner if this is something you are interested in.
Concerns.
Mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising are common after PDO Threads and should ease within a week. You may also feel some tightness or pulling as the threads settle — this is normal and usually temporary. Please contact the clinic immediately if you notice severe or persistent pain, sudden asymmetry, visible thread exposure, spreading redness, significant swelling, unusual discharge, or changes in skin colour (such as blanching or dusky tones). Your safety is our priority, and our team is here to support you.
What to expect.
It’s normal to experience mild swelling, bruising, or tenderness in the treated areas. You may also feel tightness, pulling, or slight asymmetry as threads settle — these usually improve within 1–2 weeks. Some temporary dimpling or rippling at the insertion points can occur but typically resolves on its own.
Day 1 (pm only): Gentle cleanse with lukewarm water, light hydrating serum or cream. Avoid active ingredients.
Day 2–3 (am/pm): Continue gentle cleanse + hydration. Apply moisturiser and SPF in the morning. Still no actives.
Day 4–7 (am/pm): If skin is settled, you can begin reintroducing very mild actives with practitioner guidance. Continue focusing on hydration and barrier repair.
Day 7–Ongoing: Resume your usual skincare routine as advised by your practitioner. Prioritise SPF daily to protect results.
Incorporating Skincare.
PDO Threads typically last 6–12 months, depending on lifestyle, skin quality, and the area treated. Results may continue to improve as collagen stimulation develops. Maintenance treatments are often recommended annually or as advised by your practitioner.
